The collection features the financial records, ledgers, abstracts of title, deeds, income tax documents, correspondence, aerial photographs, maps, and blueprints of the land ownership business of Robert L. Byrne and his wife Elizabeth, 1939-1960. Together, the married business partners developed two Kalamazoo area business: Northview Plat and Bob Byrne Gravel and Stone. Also included is an advertisement for the Nifty from the Maxwell Motor Co., 1915; Byrne family photographs, 1957-1979; client mortgage documents and records, 1960-1987; financial records and ledgers, 1947-1995; abstracts of title for the Northview Plat and a series of aerial photographs, "Northview Plat Aerials" by John Todd and R.S. Engineering, 1960-1980; Kalamazoo township maps, 1960-1970; and house plans, blueprints, and newspaper articles.

Robert Byrne was a Kalamazoo builder and developer with a business card which read: "Northview Plat-- 500 beautiful rolling acres." Together with his wife they proposed, developed and sold numerous properties along the Northview Plat. He also was the founder of Bob Byrne Gravel and Stone Co.
